The Shiki Theater Company, a nationwide group of 700 actors that present more than 3,000 performances a year, suddenly announced that it would not make the Fukuoka City Theater at Canal City in Hakata Ward its exclusive venue in the region. Though the company intends to continue performing in Fukuoka, it will reduce the number of productions and performances it presents. The company has used the theater since it opened in 1996, but the announcement means it is effectively withdrawing from Fukuoka. The company cited growing losses as its reason.
