Nishimu Electronics Industries Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Kyushu Electric Power Co., Inc. (Kyuden), developed a portable toilet that flushes using an independent battery supply powered by solar energy. The toilet does not require water, sanitation, or electrical facilities to operate, so it can be installed where no power supply is accessible. It can be used up to 300 times a day and requires maintenance only once a year. The toilet is the result of efforts made by Kyushu Electric Power (Kyuden) and the Kumamoto Red Cross Hospital to create smart shelters following the earthquakes that hit the prefecture in 2016. The Hakata-based Nishimu will launch the device, which they have called Towailet, this year. Source: IT Media, 2/9/2018
