Volunteer Opportunities for Kumamoto Disaster Relief

If you want to help those affected by The 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake, here are some opportunities to donate supplies or to register as a volunteer.

Kumamoto City’s Volunteer Center – From Apr. 22
Kumamoto City will open a volunteer center on Apr. 22; it will run until support is no longer necessary. Volunteers will be involved in cleaning affected houses (excluding destroyed or severely damaged ones) and in investigating the safety of houses in the affected areas.

Kumamoto City Council of Social Welfare
This website is updated regularly with volunteer opportunities in the area. If your own house has been affected, you can apply for aid from volunteers. Call 090-6653-1592 / 090-6653-1581 or fax this form to 096-354-2122. Please note: the elderly and disabled will be prioritised; not all jobs can be accepted, i.e., if you house is too damaged, it may be too dangerous for volunteers.

Itoshima City Accepting Relief Supply Donations
From Apr. 18 (Mon.) to Apr. 23 (Sat.) (subject to extension), Itoshima City is accepting donations of: bottled water (within expiry date), diapers (children, adults), toilet paper, sanitary napkins, towels, blankets, plastic wrap, paper plates and disposable chopsticks – all of these must be unused and unopened. These will be sent to shelters in Kumamoto and Oita.
Drop-off point: south side garage of Itoshima City Hall Main Bldg.

Fukuoka City Accepting Relief Supply Donations
Fukuoka City is asking citizens to donate specific items to help those affected by The 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake.
ONLY these items will be accepted:
1. Bottled water (unopened, within expiry date)
2. Non-perishable foods
3. Wet tissues
4. Toilet paper
5. Diapers (for children and adults)
6. Towels (only unused, unopened)
7. Sanitary napkins
Drop-off point: Daimyo Elementary School (2-6-11 Daimyo, Chuo-ku)
Hours: 10:00~20:00

Donation Collection Boxes in Fukuoka
Fukuoka City has opened donation collection boxes inside Fukuoka City Hall and at all ward offices and sub-branches (total 11). Donations can be made between 9:00~18:00 at City Hall and until 17:30 at ward offices and sub-branches. Running until May 13 (Fri.).
