With many clear, warm, and dry days it seems like there are more events in the month of October than any other! The Hakata Akihaku Festival is a collection of a wide variety of events that take place in the Hakata side of Fukuoka. Featured on this month’s cover is a photo taken at last year’s Tomyo Watching event and several Akihaku events are introduced – and even more on our website. Mentaiko (spicy cod roe) is a popular Fukuoka souvenir, but for those who want to enjoy it as part of their meal, try Ganso Hakata Mentaiju – they’re even open from breakfast. For a fresh seafood bowl or fish set meal, you can’t go wrong at Uochu. For udon lovers looking for something unique and willing to make the journey, Manpei serves up soft udon with freshly fried fish cakes – yum! The newly opened Telas & Mico yatai, with owner chef Kensuke Kubota (formerly of Zuma London), not only serves tasty food, but has a standing bar for drip coffee and Japanese wines. And this month’s cafe is the new Manu Coffee Roasters Kujira – it’s got everything we love about Manu and more!
