Reward For Hand-Grenade Tip Offs

Related to a long-running gang war in Fukuoka, the Fukuoka Prefectural Police have announced cash rewards of ¥100,000 for anyone who helps the police find  hand grenades. The campaign started on Apr. 2, after a noticeable increase in usage of hand grenades (referred to as pineapples!) amongst yakuza- with at least five incidents in 2011.The cash reward will be offered to anyone who reports a suspect in possession of a hand grenade that leads to arrest, or seizure of the weapon. The reward amount may be higher if the suspect is a gang boss. In order to educate the public, the Fukuoka Pref. Police issued a warning on their website, giving following advice: If a hand grenade is deployed, you must not step on it, touch it or throw it. You must run away as quickly as possible. The Fukuoka Pref. Police hope that the reward system will deter the use of bombs and other lethal weapons amongst Fukuoka’s organized crime groups.
