Two lucky Japanese high school students will soon be heading to Taiwan after winning star prizes at this year’s Fukuoka International School Spring Festival. But it’s not just about great prizes: now into its second decade, the festival annually attracts locals looking for an internationally flavoured fun day out. Some 2,000 festival visitors were spoilt for food choice, with dishes from Indonesia, Korea, China, the US and Mexico, and the traditional cotton candy, coffee and popcorn favorites. The live entertainment began with Momochihama Junior High School Band and continued with Korean drumming, Philippine indigenous dancing and the international school’s unique global blend of singing, playing, even yo-yoing, talent. The (kids’) Games Gym was by far the loudest part of the event and the balloon clown the most colourful. Throw in the Lucky Bags, book stall, bake sale, and the ever popular flea market, it was a fantastic family day out.
