Event 1 ➤ Fukuoka Softbank HAWKS 8/2~8/4 @ Fukuoka YAFUOKU! Dome
Summer pro-baseball season is in full swing – grab some friends and head to the Fukuoka Yafuoku! Dome to watch the Softbank Hawks heat up the field. Currently in fourth place on the ladder, they take on the Lions (ranked second) this weekend from 8/2~4. Cheer on Fukuoka’s hometown team and escape the summer heat for a few hours!

Event 2 ➤ 2nd Hakata Riverain Walk 8/1 (Thu.) ~ 3 (Sat.) @ Nakasu-Kawabata area
This gourmet event returns for a second edition – promoting the Nakasu-Kawabata area’s food scene. 32 great restaurants in the Nakasu-Kawabata area participate. To take part, purchase a pack of three food/drink tickets for ¥1,500 from all participating restaurants, or at the special counter inside eeny meeny miny mo (1F). Trade in your tickets for menu items at each participating shop and enjoy the buzzing gourmet atmosphere.

Event 3 ➤ Bossa Nova Show 8/3 (Sat.) @ Hotel Eclair
Authentic Irish pub “Hakata Harp” welcomes Fukuoka-based three piece bossa nova group “Belo esperanca” to take the floor this Saturday (8/3). The group is made up of guitarist Shinji Shinohara, percussionist Masahito Noda, and vocals by Michiko Shimazuka. Belo esperanca will play tunes from 18:30~ and 19:30. Entry is free, with one drink order required. The bar is located on the 1st floor of Hotel Eclair Hakata.

Event 4 ➤ Fukuoka Freedom Night Market ~August (Every Sat.) @ Fuku-haku Deai Bridge
Every Saturday night of July and August from 18:00 ~ 23:00, enjoy a summery atmosphere at the Fukuoka Freedom Night Market. Located around Fuku-haku Deai Bridge, the free market includes live events, magic shows and of course goods and food stalls with interesting items, tasty treats and drinks on offer. The Fuku-haku Minato Deai Boat will also be running night cruises (charged) coinciding with the market event.

Event 5 ➤ Summer Vacation of Kobito Dukan in Fukuoka 8/3 (Sat.) ~ 8/11 (Sun.) @ Tenjin Area
Characters from the popular ‘Kobito Dukan’ books are hiding all over Tenjin! Get your map and join the hunt at Solaria Plaza Zefa, where there’s also a huge 6m replica of the “Kakure Momojiri” character, light show and other Kobito Dukan attractions. Related events in Tenjin.

Event 6 ➤ Les Misérables 8/3 (Sat.) ~ 31 (Sat.) @ Hakataza
Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, this worldwide renowned musical is enjoying a revival following the release of its 2012 Hollywood film adaptation. Returning to Japan for the first time in 25 years with a new cast, experience the legendary live theater of “Les Mis”.

Event 7 ➤ Latin Night 8/3, 4, 10, 11 @ JR Hakata City Rooftop
Hakata City’s Latin Night brings acts from summer’s biggest festivals to the rooftop of JR Hakata Station for two hot weekends – offering you a taste of the soundtrack to summer 2013! Kicking off this Saturday, Aug. 3, Sunset Live guest artist “KINGDOM☆AFROCKS” will play on the rooftop garden, then on Sunday Aug. 4, you can watch the final stage of the “Go!Go! Sunset” contest. Isla de Salsa will take the reigns for the second weekend edition with Latin and salsa acts from Tiempo Iberoamericano heating up the stage! There are also street stalls lining the approach to the rooftop shrine selling international beer from Spain, Mexico, Peru and more.

Event 8 ➤ 26th Wasshoi Hyakuman Natsumatsuri 8/3 (Sat.) ~ 4 (Sun.) @ Katuyama Park, Kokura
Over 1.5 million gather in Kokura City for Kitakyushu’s largest festival! The Wasshoi Hyakuman Summer Festival includes dancers, stalls, and a parade with special appearance by Mickey and Minnie Mouse. Festivities close with a stunning fireworks finale over Kokura Castle.

Event 9 ➤ Giro di Calder Aso Departure Ceremony 8/4 (Sun.) @ Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk
Classic car lovers come out in force to see off the fleet of 40 antique cars as they depart Fukuoka on a two day journey. The drivers participating in the 7th annual “Giro di Calder Aso” start their two day course at Fukuoka, before driving through Saga, Nagasaki and Kumamoto to the final destination in Oita, with various checkpoints along the way. This year you can watch the departure ceremony – a popular event – from outside the front entrance of the Hilton Fukuoka Sea Hawk.

Event 10 ➤ Tenjin Waterworld ~ 8/11 (Sun.) @ Fureai Hiroba, Tenjin
Organized by “We Love Tenjin”, Tenjin Ryoenchi (Tenjin Waterworld) returns this year, following its huge success in 2012. Last year 85,000 attended, and this year’s cool waterworld is set to be even bigger and better! Attractions include water mist areas, a 20m water cannon, and new this year is a huge 7.5m tall, 28m long water slide, and mini-train that takes its passengers through water mist.

Event 11 ➤ Water Splash Square ~9/1 @ Canal City
Here’s one for kids who want to cool down and have some fun at Canal City this summer. Between July 20 and September 1, the hourly “Dancing Water Splash” fountain and music show is taken over by young ones. Kids can dance to the music and duck for cover as the water comes raining down from above! All children who participate and get soaked in water are awarded a special coupon too! If you’re not keen on getting wet, stick around for the special nighttime “Water Fireworks” show. Laser lights reflect onto the water at Canal City to look like fireworks.

Event 12 ➤ Summertime Night Zoo, Every Sat. of August @ Fukuoka City Zoological Garden
Spend a summer’s night with animals big and small! The “Night Zoo” event returns again this year every Saturday of August. After closing as usual at 17:00, the Zoo will reopen at 18:00 until 21:00. Take the chance to observe nocturnal animals in their element. Resident zoo keepers will also be on hand to give talks about the animals at special spots. Don’t forget to visit the adjoining Botanical Garden to witness the unique sight of nocturnal flowers that bloom only at night! A free shuttle bus will run between the Sakurazaka and Dobutsuen-mae bus stops from 17:50 onwards, and bus riders will receive a 20% discount on admission.
