This morning, Aug. 8 a tape cutting ceremony was held at Hakata Bayside Place to celebrate the opening of a new large scale duty free shop. The shop is operated by JTC (Japan Tourism Corporation) and will open for business on Aug. 10. The shop is located under the parking lot next to Hakata Port Tower and boasts 991 sq meters of floor space. They offer 2,000 items including cosmetics, accessories, brand name fashion goods, health food goods and supplements, medicine, alcohol, household goods, electronic goods, crafts, etc. JTC’s president, Mr. Gu Chul Mo said almost all of the products are “made in Japan” and stressed that is a critical part of their strategy to appeal to Korean and Chinese shoppers. Initially the shop will only be open to group tours with reservations. However in the future they will accept individual foreign tourists. The shop is open every day between 08:30~16:30.
