On Aug. 8, Fukuoka Now’s Nick and Ellery went along and joined in on the splashing fun of “Uchimizu” at the Hakata Station Ekimae Hiroba. Japan’s traditional technique of “uchimizu” – or splashing water on the ground may sound simple, but it works! Uchimizu can actually lower air temperatures noticeably! The event included 16:00 furin (wind chime) painting, a special address from Fukuoka City Vice-Mayor and explanation of “Cool Share”, and the grand finale of uchimizu! Beautiful girls in fresh summer yukata helped to get the crowd in the mood, and all who took part in the splashing had fun lowering the air temperatures outside Hakata Station!
