As part of the initial wave of measures to make use of Fukuoka’s National Strategic Zone status, road use regulations will be loosened for local community development groups and other organizations that hold events on public roads. Until now, these types of events had to go through preliminary trial phases before they could be held on regular basis, but by lowering this hurdle, the City is now considering various events targeting visitors who come for international conferences and other conflabs. The City hopes this will help it win more meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions, or MICE, and says it will hold careful discussions with the police, who are responsible for granting road use permits.
