After hearing that Fukuya had just sold two million cans of its latest product MenTuna, we went over to Fukuya’s main shop in Nakasu to check out what all the fuss was about.
MenTuna – for those who don’t know what it is – is canned tuna, delicately flavoured with some of Fukuya’s own Mentaiko. It comes in three flavours: the original MenTuna can, the extra spicy can and the premium extra mentaiko can. Prices range from ¥300-400 per can including tax.
To celebrate MenTuna’s success, on Oct. 6 Fukuya is launching a special campaign. Anyone who purchases three or more cans of MenTuna (of any flavour) will recieve a limited edition can of “Marinated Canned Mentaiko” made by canning granulated “Aji no Mentaiko” with cottonseed oil.
As a bonus, Fukuya is also giving out thank you badges and leaflets in a special “Kansha! Kangeki! Cancan” can (Kansha (感謝) = appreciation Kangeki (感激) = deeply moved).
Now recommendation: try the limited edition “Marinated Canned Mentaiko” on toast for a delicious start to the day.
MenTuna and Canned Mentaiko are perfect to give as souvenirs because they don’t need to be refrigerated and are small enough to easily fit inside your luggage. Fukuya has three branches that are easily accessible, conveniently located by Hakata Sta., Tenjin Sta. and Meinohama Subway Sta.
P.S. Show a copy of this ad in the October 2016 edition of Fukuoka Now in any Fukuya shop to recieve a free pack of dried squid! Copies are available at tourist information centers and most hotels. Enjoy!
