The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is calling for companies to bid for the management of the Fukuoka Airport building and runway. According to guidelines, the chosen company will also be able to bid on Kitakyushu Airport if it is privatized in the future. The decision came at the request of local municipalities in the hope that one managing company for both facilities could create a strong sense of synergy. The application deadline is August 10 with the minimum bid set at ¥161 billion. The contract is for 30 years with the possibility of a 5 year extension. This follows a similar trend in other parts of the country, where efforts to stabilize business operations resulted in the privatization of Sendai Airport, while Takamatsu Airport is in the process of being privatized.
