The Dark Room Tenjin Area
Always a little under the radar, The Dark Room is nonetheless deservedly a fixture on the Oyafuki-dori scene and offers a metropolitan pub feel with high-quality food and a wide and a discerning soundtrack that will keep even Alternative aficionados on their toes. Dark Room's industrial aesthetic decor gives it a bit of an urban playground vibe, with free pool and foosball on weeknights and a rooftop patio open Apr ~ Oct. Opened during the mid-90's Rock Renaissance, Dark Room's DJs have a bank of classic tunes but are up-to-date (and beyond) with the latest in Rock and Alternative, and allow free requests from a library of over 50,000 songs. Alt-music and food are both serious business here: American owner Moses' "Wicked Grill" runs from Thu-Sat and is an urban organic experience, with everything from the bread to the sauces and dressing made from scratch by Moses himself. Ladies' Nights (Mon), nomihodai (Fri & Sat) and monthly theme nights are ideal if the regular clubs aren't your scene, and Dark Room is also now home to Safari, one of Fukuoka's best after-parties, 4:00 ~ late on Saturday nights.
