In 1634 it is told that Kuroda Tadayuki, the head of the Kuroda clan, ordered the planting of 2,000 sakura trees meant to bring good luck to the merchants of Fukuoka. Visiting the shrine during the cherry blossom season is said to bring good luck to business ventures and relationships of the heart.
