New Immigration Era Symposium “Fukuoka Round Table Conference”

START: Jun 17, 2017 END: Jun 17, 2017

In culmination of the campaign coverage on harmonious coexistence with settled foreigners, a symposium will be held in Fukuoka City where the number of international students is one of the highest in the country. Though the government denies having “immigration policies”, our society has entered a new immigration era with the number of foreign workers exceeding one million. From “harmonious coexistence” where people with various roots live together, to “co-creation” where they learn from each other, the symposium will explore measures to happily live together in Japan in the era of population decline.

Foreigners living in Fukuoka City, the “gateway to Asia”, those in charge of hiring foreigners in companies, administrative officials, researchers in immigration policies, and other parties who do not normally have opportunities to meet together will exchange opinions. Based on a keynote speech by Mr. Koji Kunimatsu, president of “The Outlook Foundation”, and a report from the “New Immigration Era” research team, participants will discuss on “what to do” in a round table system, which will later be reported in Nishinippon Shimbun.
