Kyushu’s Population Forecast

On March 3rd the Kyushu Economic Research Center announced that in 2040 the population of the seven prefectures of Kyushu will decrease to 10,810,000. This represents a decrease of 2,156,000, or 16.6%, compared to the population as of October 1, 2016. Despite the findings of the National Institute of Population and Social Security Research back in May, 2013 the decrease in Fukuoka and Kumamoto has been slower than predicted but has been faster in the other five prefectures.
