There were 1,021 cases of HIV infection and 431 cases of AIDS reported for the year 2009, for a combined total of 1,452 cases. For the past six years, the number of cases of HIV and AIDS has been over 1,000 per year.In Fukuoka City there were 24 cases of HIV infection including cases of AIDS a combined total of 39. And that’s not all – these figures count only those who were tested. That means there are more people going about their daily lives without knowing that they have been infected.

How About You?

Everyone is aware that most cases of AIDS are transmitted through sexual relations. Some people overlook the dangers, however, by claiming they’re not at risk because they have only one partner. That in itself should give pause for thought. Even if a couple has an exclusive relationship now, if either
one of the partners has had sex with just one other person in the past, the potential for infection is no longer zero.

Prevention

A condom is an effective way to prevent.
Preventing infection means preventing HIV from entering your
body. Use a condom whenever you make love.

Do you use a condom in the right way?

1. Always use a condom during sex.
2. Do not use a condom more than once.
3. If you put a condom on the wrong way, dispose it and use a new one.
4. Do not wear two condoms at once. Doubling condoms make them easier to break due to friction.
5. It is easy to tear a condom with your nails, so be careful.
6. Keep condoms in a cool and dark place so they are not exposed to heat or sunlight.
7. Check the expiry date on the package before using.
