“Healthy” American-style doughnuts baked daily and available as take-out or delivered.
Many years ago, when Kenji (owner of popular izakaya “Kenji-ya” near Reisen Park) lived in New York City, he enjoyed nothing better then picking up a donut and a coffee, to go, from street vendors. Back in Japan, finding donuts wasn’t a problem, but they weren’t quite the same. Six years ago, Kenji began developing recipes for “healthy” American-style donuts. Coincidentally, this year Crispy Creme and other premium donuts began appearing around Japan. Kenji’s timing is perfect! Canezees’s donuts are baked daily using only 100% rice oil. The flour is from Chikugo (Fukuoka Prefecture), and neither eggs, shortening, nor margarine are used. Currently there are seven varieties to choose from: Cacao Barry Chocolate, Honey Sugar, Cassis Berry, Organic Vanilla, Amami Zarame, Organic Maple Cinnamon, and Kuro Goma. Prices range from 170 yen to 240 yen each; not cheap, but quality has its price! Donuts can be purchased through the window at Kenji-ya from 11:00, or for just 250 yen extra have them delivered by bike messenger anywhere inside central Fukuoka until 17:00. A box filled with one of each flavor makes a great gift to a family or an office!
