Filipino restaurant in Yakuin

Filipinos account for over 20% of the foreign residents in Fukuoka, so there must be a great place to savor the delicious Filipino flavors. Delgado’s Dining & Petit Bar, just off of Takamiya-dori in Yakuin, offers authentic Filipino cuisine and a wealth of information on the island nation, with picture books, maps, and magazines on display. Owned and operated by the three Delgado sisters, the spic-and-span room is decorated with art and objects from the Philippines, while Filipino pop music and soap operas blare from monitors mounted on the walls. Before midnight the place has a homely feel, but when the clock strikes twelve, the tables and counter bar fill up with Filipinos ready to have a good time. Owner Alice Delgado and her two cooks serve up authentic Filipino cuisine: sweet, spicy coconut milk flavors with distinct Spanish and Chinese influences. While you peruse the mouthwatering menu, sip on a fresh Calamansi, mango or guava juice (400 yen), which go nicely with the starters: spring rolls, crepe-style dishes with meat filling, and several kinds of soup (500 yen~). Try the Crispy Pata, an entire deep-fried pork leg (1,600 yen~) or Karekare, oxtail stewed in peanut butter with banana blossom and served with rice (1,600 yen~). The Filipino clientele love Pancit Canton (850 yen), a dish comprised of boiled seafood, egg noodles and vegetables, and Laing (780 yen), taro leaf with spicy pork and broth cooked in coconut milk. If you have a sweet tooth, finish off your meal with their Sweet Plate of pudding, whipped cream and purple sweet potato ice cream (680 yen). And on your way out, pick up a few ingredients to try Filipino cooking at home!
