Thai cook prepares delicious and inexpensive lunches. Casual setting. Open for dinner too.
In July of 2007 Gumrandee moved from their previous location in Imaizumi to a more convenient and cozier space in Daimyo. The new digs, right down to the plastic chairs and checkered vinyl tablecloths, are reminiscent of the colorful and casual street-side diners found everywhere in Thailand. Gumrandee’s chef, Gun, prepares over 80 dishes representing most areas of Thailand including his native territory in the north. Pictured here is their Steamed Fish in Lemon Sauce, and Sautéed Chinese Kelp. Also highly recommended is the Green Papaya Salad. When you order a la carte, the staff suggest you order a few dishes and share it Thai-style. For lunch there’s a choice of seven different sets such as the Tom Yum Noodles, and the Green Coconut Curry with Jasmine Rice 730 yen. Draft beer (480 yen), soft drinks (200 yen) or a desert (200 yen) can be added to any set. Owner Yoshinori Shindo grows his own vegetables and herbs on his own farm, so not only are the portions of veggies generous, and freshness unquestioned, but this also keeps prices down. Asian desert lovers will want to try either the Mango on Sticky Rice or the Steamed Banana Mochi.
