Owner Izaki was well-satisfied with his daily coffee, until Starbucks invaded the market with fancy speciality coffees. Realizing the days of the traditional Japanese kissaten were numbered, he knew that he had to come up with something better. However, his attempt to buy superior beans was foiled by the Japanese distribution system which limits small buyers’ choices. Izaki formed “Mikatajuku”, a group of like-minded coffee shop purists, who buy directly from growers in both Central and South America, as well as Africa. Izaki frequently travels to farms to meet with the growers. At his shop in Kiyokawa you can choose from a wide selection of these freshly roasted beans. Take them back whole or have them ground to order. Or try Izaki’s new Clover Coffee Machine, the first of its kind in Japan. Combining the best aspects of French drip and vacuum brewers, this high-tech marvel is taking the café-world by storm, and delivers sublime coffee every time. It doesn’t get any better – anywhere!
