A great place for some traditional Indian, Nepalese, Thai and Sri Lankan cuisine. Delicious, and a bit spicy!
Jan Jan, one of our favorite spots for a spicy meal in Fukuoka, will soon celebrate its tenth anniversary, and we’re pleased to report that a good place has just become even better! Jan Jan used to serve only Indian and Nepalese foods, but recently, Thai and Sri Lankan curries have been added to the menu and they’re just as yummy! Owner and chef Nishikawa-san deftly strikes balances between hot spices and flavor, resulting in what he calls “delicious-heat!” Don’t expect traditionally orthodox fare, but instead come and enjoy his creative culinary craftsmanship, best exemplified by Jan Jan’s sensational Thai-style Shrimp and Mango Curry. Nan are baked freshly inside Nishikawa’s finely-tuned charcoal-fired tandoor oven, and never disappoint. If you prefer yours crispy or soft, just say so. Among the selection of seasonal curries, there’s always at least one vegetarian dish, and other vegetable-only orders can be prepared, provided you call in advance. The Jan Jan Salad (pictured here) is a huge overflowing plate of raw greens, ideal for cleansing your palate between curries. The Caribbean-style decor, wooden floor, incandescent lighting and Latin music soundtrack are further eclectic touches to this warm and casual spot that is equally ideal for a groups of friends as it is for a dinner date. Open for lunch and all no-smoking. Enjoy!
