Chilling with the Sistas

“As Daimyo, and more recently, Imaizumi continue to overpopulate with restaurants and bars, Haruyoshi has become Fukuoka’s new frontier for cool off-the-track night spots. Sista Fari, managed by members of the local funk and reggae dance group Coconuts and Sista, just opened last December, and already has a cozy and groovy atmosphere happening. Staff take turns spinning a constant flow of beats, R&B, soul, hip hop and reggae flow from the DJ booth, but the volume is kept sensibly down. Music is an important element here, but it’s not overpowering. Either the counter or tables are comfortable for chatting with friends and the staff. As manager Marumi says, “”we enjoy being here, too””.
Light meals and snacks, salads, pastas, chicken and even “”soul”” plate are reasonable priced and tasty. The chef’s daily dinner is usually a good choice; usually 1,000 yen or less. The bar is fully loaded with all the standards plus a good selection of liquers and even a few select bottles of shochu. A fine find for those seeking an inner-city bar with soul.”
