Title of study: A Spoken Corpus of Foreign Patient Narratives for Nursing English

Purpose: I am creating a collection of 100 audio recordings of stories from non-Japanese residents and visitors about their experiences seeking medical care in Japan.
Significance: These recordings will be used to create e-learning materials for Japanese nursing students focusing on improving their English listening ability and their understanding of the linguistic and cultural challenges facing non-Japanese patients.
Selection Criteria: I am looking for people who meet these conditions:
* you are at least 20 years old
* you are a non-Japanese resident or visitor in Japan
* your first language is not Japanese
* you have had at least one experience at a Japanese hospital or clinic in which you experienced culture shock or communication breakdown
* you can talk about your experience in English for 10-15 minutes.
Anyone who can tell an 8-10 minute story in English is welcome to apply, but I am especially eager to meet with English speakers from China, South Korea, Vietnam, Nepal, Philippines, and Bangladesh. Ideally, I intend to recruit an equal number of men and women. Based on the number of applications already received, you may not be asked to participate in this study.)
Time Commitment: The entire session should take 45-60 minutes. You will be expected to tell your story in English for 8-10 minutes.
Location: The session can take place at Fukuoka Jo Gakuin’s Tenjin Satellite location, my office in Koga City, or a community center in one of the wards. You will be responsible for any transportation fees.
Compensation: You will receive a 2000 yen gift card.
