The Evergreen Marinoa amusement park in Fukuoka City has a 120-meter-high Ferris wheel, the nation’s highest, but the park’s operating company is thinking of shutting it down at the end of August. The company says the Ferris wheel itself is profitable, and has slightly less than 200,000 riders a year. But the equipment is nearly 10 years old and will require large expenditures for repair and maintenance. The company is also considering dismantling the Ferris wheel entirely. The ride is popular with couples and families for its view of the Tsushima Strait and the Fukuoka Tower.
