The Fukuoka branch of Tokyo Shoko Research released the results of their survey of 2009 bankruptcies in Kyushu and Okinawa Prefecture with liabilities of at least 10 million yen. A total of 1,115 companies shut their doors during the year, a decline of 24.8% from the previous year and the first decline in four years. It was also the first year since 1990 that bankruptcies were at what is considered a low level. This was attributed to emergency cash flow support for small businesses and accelerated orders for public works projects.
