Kyushu Electric Power Company Suspends Coal Imports from Russia

Kyushu Electric Power has three coal-fired power plants in operation, and in FY2020, seven percent of the 6.8 million tons of the total came from Russia. On April 8, Prime Minister Kishida announced a ban on coal imports as a new sanction against Russia. Kyushu Electric’s suspension of imports is intended to comply with these economic sanctions. Since alternative coal supply has already been procured from other regions, Kyushu Electric claims that there will be no impact on its ability to provide power. Source: TNC
