Local Taxi Company To Test GPS Measured Fares

Daiichi Kotsu Sangyo and NTT West will test a GPS-based taxi fare calculation system in July. Unlike conventional taximeter systems based on the number of wheel turns, their new system, ‘soft meter,’ uses tablets or other devices that can calculate the distance with location data that appears on the passenger’s display as well. The national government has encouraged the development of such a system as a step to introduce a dynamic pricing model. Source: Yomiuri
