On August 18, Fukuoka Prefecture hit the highest daily count of the new coronavirus infection. The 1,253 new cases included 625 found in Fukuoka City, 229 in Kitakyushu City, 59 in Kurume City and more. The cumulative total stood at 52,452. One of the recent cluster infections was reported among nine high school students who stayed in a hotel room while eating and watching movies. As of August 17, the occupancy rate of the secured hospital beds was 61.4, surpassing 60% for two days in a row. Source: NHK / RKB
