A survey by the Nishinippon Shimbun has revealed that companies in the manufacturing industry plan to close 10 factories in Kyushu this year due to the global economic downturn. About 2,700 workers will either be transferred or laid off. This will also affect local governments, who will suffer a decline in tax revenue as a result.
