Much of Japanese culture and its aesthetic sensibilities were based around karakami. At this special event, a professional craftsman from Karacho (Japan's only karakami maker still in operation today, est.1624 in Kyoto) demonstrates the karakami process. Following the demonstration, participants have the chance to make two sheets of letter paper themselves. The workshop is run in English and Japanese by instructors Akihiko Toto and Aiko Senda. Learn the ancient craftsmanship of karakami. This workshop is part of a series of Japanese cultural experiences “The Way of Japan” run by NPO Hearty Care Foundation to promote interaction amongst the international community.
