The book will be in Japanese only. It’s the fifth Japanese area to be covered in the renowned guide book, and the first to feature Kyushu. Restaurants and Fukuoka’s yatai street stalls will be considered for the guide. The Michelin Guide was first published in 1900 by Michelin France. Michelin reviewers notoriously hide their identity when visiting restaurants and facilities to critically rate five categories, including quality and creativity - and award “Michelin stars” for excellence to a select few establishments. In Japan thus far, the Michelin Guide Tokyo edition (currently titled Michelin Guide Tokyo Yokohama Shonan 2014) was first published in 2007 and was Asia’s first Michelin Guide; followed by the Kyoto/ Osaka edition in 2009 (currently titled Michelin Guide Kansai 2014). Both of these guidebooks are popular amongst readers. Michelin Japan CEO Mr. Bernard Delmas held a press conference in Fukuoka City and commented positively on both Fukuoka and Saga, saying “I am incredibly pleased that Michelin will be publishing a guide to a region with such an incredible history, culture, and abundance of nature.” Research for the new guide has been underway for a year already. The guide will also include listings without stars, commending reasonable price, atmosphere and quality. Mr. Delmas commented “I hope this guide becomes a trusted companion, a tool which helps it’s readers to explore the beauty of Fukuoka and Saga.” Source: Nishinippon Shimbun Jan. 29"}
