\nWe\u2019ll begin with a visit to two of Japan\u2019s most recently appointed World Heritage Sites. After viewing the Miike Port from an observation deck, we\u2019ll visit a mine built with the collaboration from British mines.<\/p>\n

Yanagawa Canal Cruising<\/strong>

\nNext, we\u2019ll take a leisurely 70-minute cruise through the canals of Yanagawa. We\u2019ll pass by quiet gardens, glide under bridges and be serenaded by the oarsmen.<\/p>\n

Unagi Seiro Mushi Lunch at Ohana<\/strong>

\nFor lunch we\u2019ll enjoy a local delicacy, seiro-mushi<\/em> (grilled eel with a savory sauce served on steamed rice), while enjoying a view of the Japanese gardens of the famous inn, Ohana. A substitute vegetarian meal is possible instead of eel lunch.<\/p>\n

Lattice Workshop in Okawa<\/strong>

\nKenjiro Watanabe has received two Prime Minister’s Awards in recognition of his magnificent lattice woodwork, known as kumiko<\/em> in Japanese. We\u2019ll visit his workshop and learn more about this delicate craft.<\/p>\n

Why so inexpensive?<\/strong>
\nThe cost of this tour has been drastically reduced, in return for cooperation by tour participants in a short written survey to be conducted on the bus on the way back to Tenjin. Information gathered will be used by tourism related offices to promote the areas visited on this tour in the future. The surveys are anonymous. The \u00a54,100 participation fee covers the actual cost of the lunch and the canal cruising. Transportation, the guide and other parts are in fact free, so this is a great value.<\/p>\n
