Kenichi Nakamura (1895-1967) was born in Munakata City and was a highly esteemed Western-style painter. The event will mark half a century since Nakamura’s passing and is particularly noteworthy as a large scale retrospective of his artwork has not been displayed in Fukuoka for over 45 years. A graduate of the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, Nakamura studied in France in the early 1920s and was known for his depictions of the battlefield during wartime before becoming a member of the Imperial Arts Academy in 1950. The exhibition will feature his pre and post-war work, as well as paintings of his hometown.

中村研一「弟妹集う」1930年、住友クラブ蔵

50 Years Since the Passing of Kenichi Nakamura: An Exhibition
• 2/3 (Sat.) ~ 3/11 (Sun.)
• 10:00~18:00 (*Last admission: 17:30)
• Adult: ¥700 (¥500), high school and college students: ¥500 (¥300), elementary and junior high school student: ¥300 (¥200) (*Price in parentheses refers to group bookings of 20 visitors or more)
• 4F Exhibition Room Fukuoka Prefectural Museum of Art
• 5-2-1 Tenjin, Chuo-ku
• 092-715-3551
• http://fukuoka-kenbi.jp/exhibition/2017/kenbi8428.html

The Fukuoka Prefectural Museum of Art is hosting an exhibition Kenichi Nakamura’s works.
