Aerial Being<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

This plastic inflatable installation might be transparent, but there is no way you can miss it! The huge, human-shaped creation has been displayed in various locations in Japan. For this event, the balloon-like artwork will be 18 meters in length and installed in Reisen Park. Why not lie down on the grass beside it?<\/p>\n

Yasuhiro Suzuki<\/strong>
\nYasuhiro Suzuki applies his playful and unique presentation to everyday objects and concepts turning them into objects of art. His \u201cAerial Being\u201d can be seen at Reisen Park from Nov. 1 ~ Nov. 3. Location might change in case of high winds or strong rain.<\/p>\n

Under close inspection you can see that this Mt. Fuji-like installation is actually made up of connected rings. This series first appeared in Sweden this year. With special lighting set up by Taira Ichikawa, the artwork can be viewed at night from different angles. The light and ring-like structures will combine to create some stunning visuals!<\/p>\n

Hitoshi Ushijima<\/strong>
\nAfter meeting famous dancer Min Tanaka, Kurume based artist Hitoshi Ushijima developed an interest in performance art. But it\u2019s his artworks which double as playground equipment that he became famous for.<\/p>\n

Are Atoms Alive?<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

This large-scale video installation makes use of nine 20-foot shipping containers. The seven-minute story starts in a science laboratory and connects the night sky above Dekimachi Park with the entire universe. The video explores busy, bustling scenes and beautiful microscopic worlds! <\/p>\n

Storybox<\/strong>
\nStorybox is a multimedia studio founded in 2010, and based in New Zealand. The group creates works centered on the theme of \u2018storytelling\u2019 in all its forms. <\/p>\n

Mizu to miru yume<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

Sambo-Daikojin Shrine in Ryuguji Temple has been decorated with a set of Yame washi<\/em> paper lanterns of various different sizes. The designs feature a range of images inspired by aspects of Hakata Old Town. The installations will look particularly impressive under soft, subtle lighting.<\/p>\n

Vu Kim Thu <\/strong>
\nThu was born in Hanoi, Vietnam in 1976 and currently resides there. Thu has a particular interest in light-based installations made with paper lanterns, and will create such a work during her residency at FAAM starting September. The work will be displayed at Ryuguji Temple. Don\u2019t miss the warm, soft light of this paper lantern installation.<\/p>\n

The world the mermaid saw<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

The designs featured in this work have been inspired by Hakata ningyo<\/em> dolls. Passersby will definitely be impressed by the sight of mermaids and the sea-like world that has been created. This new, magical artwork is sure capture the public’s imagination!<\/p>\n

Toyoda Marisa<\/strong>
\nA resident of Kitakyushu, artist Toyoda Marisa is also a Jodo Shinshu priest. She has a background in set design and creative direction for national broadcaster NHK\u2019s serial dramas. For this art event, Toyoda will create a painting inspired by the legendary mermaid of Ryuguji Temple.<\/p>\n

Maho no kusuri<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

This piece depicts an eccentric woman in a bright kitchen serving up medicinal-looking food to four men. The Fukuoka Asian Art Museum will be screening the futuristic video, which was shot across a two month period earlier this year, inside a colorful set.<\/p>\n

Mo Jiaqing<\/strong>
\nBorn in Hangzhou Province, China in 1993 and currently resides there. During her residency at FAAM between May and July 2018, the artist created a colorful video artwork depicting a futuristic kitchen. This will be displayed within and outside FAAM which inside FAAM will be together with its original set. Both surreal and pop in nature, Jiaqing\u2019s works are a must-see.<\/p>\n

Mise o miru<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

This video was shot along the Kawabata Shotengai Shopping Arcade across a two-week period in 2015. Elementary school students have voiced a narration, which is played over images of the local shops and owners going about their daily business. The work will initially be screened in the Kawabata Shopping Arcade. Captured with warmth, the artist\u2019s images of everyday Kawabata are compelling within the setting, three years after their original production.<\/p>\n

Chung Ling Jolene Mok<\/strong>
\nBorn 1984 in Hong Kong and currently lives there. She participated in FAAM\u2019s residence program in 2015, when she created the video Shop Watching, based on footage of 16 stores in the city\u2019s historic Kawabata Shopping Arcade. <\/p>\n
