The Itoshima Arts Farm takes place in the nature-rich Nijomasue and Fukae regions of Itoshima, focusing on revitalizing the area through the celebration of art. Domestic and overseas artists will exhibit in a variety of mediums, including dance, painting and video. There will also be food and drink stalls offering additive-free lunch bento made with fresh Itoshima ingredients, sweets, bread, home-brewed coffee, hamburgers and more.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s theme is \u201cMarebito no Torimichi (Passage of Strangers)\u201d. Itoshima is located in the northern part of Kyushu, between Fukuoka City in the east and Karatsu City in the west. It is also close to the Korean Peninsula as well as China from across the strait and is considered has prospered as a window for the continent since long ago. At the venue of the Itoshima Arts Farm, Masue Village, the Karatsu Highway extends from east to west. People who came from the other side of the sea walked that way during ancient times. In present times, artists from all over the world visit the place as well as stay and walk on the same road. According to folklore scholar Orikuchi Nobu, marebito<\/em> (rare person, guest) are spirits who return happily to the villagers\u2019 past lives from the other side of the sea. The artists who will visit Itoshima Arts Farm may be marebito<\/em>, and the guests who will come to see the art may also be marebito<\/em>. This path of the marebito<\/em> leads from the past to the future.<\/p>\n
