<\/p>\nThe Momote Festival is a traditional festival which sees locals gather at the Yodogawa Tenmangu Shrine to pray for a good harvest and cleanse their lives of evil. It is also recognized as one of Itoshima City’s intangible folk cultural properties. Handmade bows and arrows are used for an archery display that takes place once the prayers have finished. This is followed by a rice eating contest, the highlight of the festival. The sight of participants devouring mounds of rice never fails to generate excitement amongst the crowd! <\/p>\n
