Feb. 25 is the anniversary of the death of Michizane Sugawara, enshrined in Dazaifu Tenmangu as the god of education. On this day, priests of the shrine wear plum branches on their headdresses and offer plum blossoms along with special sake<\/em> to console Michizane’s spirit. The god of wisdom is also visited by numerous admirers during Tobiume Kosha Festival on Feb. 24 and 25 to wish for a successful life of the family and good health.<\/p>\n
