<\/p>\nThis Shinto ceremony takes place inside the Tenjin Hiroba Ceremonial Site and involves the ritual burning of calabashes. The event is the culmination of a practice which starts when people looking to ward off evil collect prayers that have been attached to gourds from the shrine. The gourds are then brought home and hung up inside people\u2019s houses. These become Yakubare Hyotan once the year is over and the evil has been cleared. The belief is that wishes will come true on the day that the gourds are burnt. <\/p>\n
