<\/p>\nThis bamboo light up event pays homage to the famous Japanese folktale Taketori Monogatari (Tale of the Bamboo-Cutter). Six thousand bamboo garden lanterns will be dotted around Marutaike Park to create a magical atmosphere. The lanterns are made out of bamboo collected from forest thinning in the area. The Itoshima Youth Committee is helping with the event to raise awareness about the problems arising from bamboo thickets in the local area.<\/p>\n
