Before WWII, people in Hakata made mochi<\/em> (sticky rice) cakes in the new year to the sound of the shamisen<\/em> and taiko<\/em> drums, and this tradition re-emerged in 1996. On the day of the event, red and white rice cakes will be distributed to 100 people who enter the Hakata Machiya Furusatokan.<\/p>\n
