Kashiihama is the site of Nexus World, an ambitious apartment complex constructed in 1991 with projects by six internationally acclaimed architects: one Japanese, Osamu Ishiyama, and five non-Japanese architects Oscar Tusquèts, Christian de Portzamparc, Marc Mack, Steven Holl, and Rem Koolhaas. Suehiro lives inside one of these units, so in addition to his description of the architecture, we’ll hear what it’s like to live there. From there, we’ll walk across a bridge to Island City, a massive development built on reclaimed land in Hakata Bay. An extension connecting the island to the Fukuoka Urban Expressway was completed just weeks ago. A new shopping mall and hotel and more popped up last year. We will walk the green and grassy multidimensional Grin-grin by Toyo Ito and the Island Tower Sky Club triple towers. It will be a long but interesting walk. Anyone interested in architecture or city planning will be sure to enjoy this one. Join us in the live chat with your questions and comments.

Join us live from 16:00 JST SUNDAY, APRIL 18 or watch later on Kyushu Live (YouTube) https://youtu.be/sjx4M6wJxw8

About my guest Kaoru Suehiro:

Kaoru Suehiro is an architect and partner at NKS2 Architects and an Associate Professor, Kyushu University Graduate School of Human-Environment Studies.
