Photo by Akiko Tominaga<\/p>\nA theatrical production re-enacts the daily life of a nursing facility in Chikugo. What surfaces from the site of care work and its story? At the Kurume City Plaza, we select and introduce motivational works that capture the time and age and attempt to engage using original expressions as part of the “Learn, Watch, Think – Our Theatre Series.” As the second edition of this series, we will perform Pamilya. A Filipino care worker who works in a nursing home for the elderly in Fukuoka re-enacts her everyday work on the stage and talks about herself and her family that lives in her home country. Takuya Murakawa is a theatrical director who conducts fieldwork to create productions based on actual life events. In 2019, he researched nursing facilities in Fukuoka and produced this performance featuring the Filipino care worker he met there (premiered in 2020). We will be hosting this production, refined, inviting back the care worker who had already returned to her home country. This work questions the nature of giving and receiving care, which nobody living in modern societies can stay unrelated to, regardless of what country.<\/p>\n
