My interpretation of this fortune is that even though we lose something important to us, we often gain something in return. This idea has been the theme for my past year after unfortunately losing my job of 8 years, but gaining the ability to travel long term and allowing me to arrive at Studio Kura.

My work here has focused on local flora, fauna, folklore, and customs of the area using natural found objects such as beach wood, shells, and starfish as well as thrifted fabric from local second hand shops creating an improvisational interaction between found objects provided by nature and locally sourced man made materials

Just as the snail loses its shell, it gains a larger more comfortable one. Just as someone discarding fabric from their closet, they gain more space in their home and perhaps even inner peace. Just as the bird loses its egg, it flies away with wings. ”

02.
