This 300-year-old home of the Yanagawa domain lord teams up with Gonjiro Ito Shoten, a lantern-maker with over two centuries of tradition, and Moriyama Kasuri Workshop, known for producing Kurume Kasuri fabric, to deliver a mesmerizing summer evening.

Yanagawa, a city laced with waterways, has a rich tradition associated with Kappa. Evidence of this can be seen in the stone statues of Kappa that adorn the city and in the ‘hands of Kappa’ (‘Kappa no te’), an artifact passed down through generations in Ohana.

Adding to the enchanting atmosphere, the event will feature an exhibition of lanterns depicting yokai, Japanese supernatural creatures. Furthermore, visitors will get to view the “Geishu Budayu Monogatari Emaki,” a scroll painting of yokai belonging to the Tachibana family that served as the inspiration for the Kikai Yako event.

• Fri., Sat., and Sun.: 8/4 (Fri.) ~ 8/20 (Sun.)
• 18:00~21:00 (last entry 20:30)
• ¥1,500, HS ¥1,000, JHS &
