Derived from the Dutch word ‘Zondag,’ meaning ‘holiday,’ Dontaku is one of Japan’s most prominent festivals. The festivities begin with the historic ‘Hakata Matsubayashi,’ which has an 840-year legacy. The celebration features the Three Lucky Gods riding horses, joined by a children’s procession, visiting over 150 commercial and corporate locations across the city. Moreover, 39 designated performance stages throughout Fukuoka host an array of events, transforming the city into a festive hub.
For more comprehensive details, refer to the Fukuoka Now Hakata Dontaku Guide 2024!

Photo provided by the City of Fukuoka

• 5/3 (Fri., hol.), 5/4 (Sat., hol.)
• Free viewing
• Fukuoka City (map)

Kyushu Live – Dontaku Parade 2023 – Fukuoka streets come alive!
