It began in the mid-Edo period to honor the victims of a violent storm and plague in Hakata Bay and continues to this day. During the event, large lanterns adorned with warrior paintings are displayed, historical warrior paintings are exhibited, and numerous food stalls line the streets, attracting many visitors, especially locals.
