On display are approximately 25 historical illustrations of Yamakasa floats, including works passed down through the Kuroda family, former lords of the Fukuoka Domain, and others created from the mid-Edo period through the end of the era. While today’s floats are typically made separately as either “kakiyama” (carried floats) or “kazariyama” (decorative floats), these illustrations—produced annually as part of float preparation—offer a glimpse into the festival’s past, including scenes from the Edo period when tall, ornate floats raced through town.

「山笠図屏風」

• 7/1 (Tue.) ~ 9/7 (Sun.)
• 9:30~17:30 (last entry 17:00)
• Closed: Mon.
