Many associate the day with nanakusa-gayu (seven-herb rice porridge), believed to soothe the stomach after New Year\u2019s feasting. At Gokoku Shrine, the Nanakusa Festival involves offering the herbs at the altar and praying for protection from misfortune and illness.
