<\/p>\nHeld on the night before Coming of Age Day, Kasuga\u2019s Muko-oshi, also known as the Wakamizu Festival, is a traditional winter event that celebrates couples married in the previous year. Led by local young men, the community comes together to prepare and participate in the festivities.
\nThe event begins at 19:15 with the lighting of a ceremonial fire. Children first compete in a wooden barrel-pushing contest, followed by a greeting and toast from the newlyweds. Participants then undergo a purification ritual. The highlight is a vigorous barrel-pushing contest in the pond in front of the shrine. Pieces of broken barrels are later offered at the altar as prayers for a good harvest, family happiness, and good fortune. This spirited tradition brings warmth and excitement to a quiet winter night in Kasuga.<\/p>\n
